You have beautifully written about the beautiful transition of season. This prompts me, in a third world country where we don't have as beautiful four seasons as you do, can I write something this beautiful about what we have? I shall try.
Love this and will be trying to compost in the spring! In the past I did vermicomposting, but it took much longer for the worms to break down the organic material than it would for an aerobic process.
Seasons change in more subtle ways in California, especially when the climate is tempered by living near the ocean. I also listen to and watch the birds, who help define the time of year by their presence or behaviors. My pet canary (Named Freddie Mercury because he’s such a singer!) molts most or all of his soft yellow and gray feathers in the fall, an act that takes a lot of energy, so he is quiet and needs richer food. In the last few days he has finished growing the new, brighter feathers out so he is and noisy and has begun singing again. He flits and bounces, spraying his water about the cage as he bathes and preens to keep his new look pristine. I just got a new haircut too, and pulled out my favorite scarves and sweaters, my trusty vests and light down jacket, the only layers I will need. We’re ready for the solstice.
Beautiful imagery! Love the photos too.
